The former president of Guyana Donald Ramotar is reported dead this morning.
Donald Ramotar, died this morning at his home and was announced by his son and other family members.
“Donald Ramotar was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for,” former President Donald Ramotar’s son said in a statement announcing his father’s death. “The entire Ramotar family is deeply grateful for 69th life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”
President David A. Granger has designated Friday as a national day for mourning.
A state funeral will be arranged at Georgetown Cathedral, the president and the family will be there to wish the farewell of Donald Ramotar for all the good things he has done for the country.
Donald Ramotar had worked for decades in government before ascending to the nation’s highest office, having served as General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party from 1997 to 2013.
President David A. Granger praised Donald Ramotar as “a patriot and humble servant.”
“I already miss the greatest human being that I will ever know. Love you Dad!,” Alvaro Mario Ramotar said in a tweet.
The cause of his dead is not announced. However, the last few months were very bad for him, before his demise he was admitted at The queens medical center in Hawaii where he used to go for treatment.
He had been taken there in April 2018 and in January 2019 for treatment related to pneumonia, family spokesman Mathew said. his hospitalization came days after the whole family paid him a visit..
